7 Reasons Your CBD May Not Be Working

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably heard a lot about CBD and its numerous health benefits from reduced anxiety to improving depression. You may have even decided to give it a try, but were disappointed when you didn’t feel any better.

Before you write CBD off as a waste of time and money, make sure you understand all of the factors going into why it may not be working for you right now.

1. Your expectations are too high

The first reason your CBD may not be working is that you have unrealistic expectations. CBD is not a miracle cure, and it won’t work for everyone, and may not work the way you imagined.

It’s important to remember that while CBD has been shown to be helpful for many people, each person’s body is different and will respond differently to the compound, but we’ll talk more about that later.

2. You’re using a low-quality product

While CBD is a relatively new industry, it has exploded in popularity, which means there are now hundreds of companies selling products made from the compound.

Unfortunately, with no governing body or regulations for the CBD market yet, this also means that not all of these companies have scruples about their product quality and testing procedures. So you could be taking something poorly made and not even realize it, which is why research is so important.

One way to ensure you’re buying high-quality CBD is to look for third-party lab reports that verify the potency and purity of your chosen brand’s products before making any purchases.

3. You have a tolerance or genetic predisposition

Sometimes it’s possible to not feel the effects of CBD simply because you’ve built up a tolerance to it from marijuana or CBD use. There are plenty of things you can do to reduce your tolerance though. For example, check out these restorative detox methods.

Additionally, some people are just genetically predisposed to not respond as well to CBD. In these cases, it might be worth trying a different form of the compound or looking for a brand that uses a higher-quality extract.

4. CBD hasn’t built up in your system yet

Contrary to what you might think, CBD isn’t like many other medicines that work instantaneously. For some treatments, it takes time for the CBD to build up in your system and begin to work.

This is especially true for those taking CBD as a daily supplement, which can take several weeks of consistent use before you notice any significant changes. So be patient if you’ve only been taking it for a week or two. Remember, it’s not a magic pill, despite what all of the overly-hyped ads may say.

5. You’re not using enough CBD

One of the most common reasons people don’t feel anything from their CBD products is because they aren’t using enough. Having an idea about how much CBD would be appropriate to get the effects you want isn’t always easy, but luckily there are some guidelines available that can help point you in the right direction.

A good rule of thumb is to start low and slow—taking just one drop or milligram at first and increasing from there. Dialing in the proper dosage is essential in order to reap the full benefits of CBD.

6. You need a different consumption method

There are many different ways to take CBD from ingestion to inhalation, to sublingual tinctures. Each method of consumption will work differently for each person, so it’s important to experiment with different methods until you find one that works best for you.

Some people find that they respond better to CBD when it’s taken sublingually (placed under the tongue), while others do better with inhalation or ingestion.

7. You need a full-spectrum CBD product

CBD isolates are next to worthless for some. The body’s endocannabinoid system takes CBD much more easily when it is accompanied by other cannabinoids and terpenes found from the hemp or cannabis plant.

If you’re not happy with the results you’re getting, try switching to either a full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD product.

So those are seven potential reasons your CBD may not be working the way you want it to. If you’ve tried all of these things and still aren’t seeing results, it’s possible that CBD just isn’t right for you. But before giving up on the compound altogether, try talking to your doctor about other potential treatments for the issues you’re experiencing.
