Aliens: Fireteam New Co-op PvE Shooter Coming Out Soon
Aliens: Fireteam which is a three-player co-op PvE shooter has been announced and it will be released this summer on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One.
Developer Cold Iron Studios announced that the project – which was revealed back in 2018 – will take place over a multi-mission story campaign. Cold Iron co-founder Craig Zinkievich says one of the aims of Aliens: Fireteam is to meet the “Cameron-esque” fantasy we saw on screen in the 1986 classic Aliens.
Fireteam is based in 2202, 23 years after the original Alien movie trilogy. At this point in the timeline, Xenomorph outbreaks are rare but the aliens are widely known about them. The Colonial Protection Act of 2187 commissioned warships to patrol the universe and defend colonists from Xenomorph attacks. You play a new soldier on the USS Endeavor and you end up orbiting Katanga after a distress call.
In the game, you will meet 20 total enemy types, which includes 11 different types of Xenomorphs ranging from Facehuggers to Praetorians, and Synthetics will also be on your list of enemies. Each campaign has new foes to fight, one of them being a Xenomorph hive.
Gamers, meanwhile, can choose one of 5 different classes: Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc, and Recon. You’ll be able to change your colonial marine with unlockable cosmetics. Challenge Cards are optional mutators that change gameplay in order to help replayability; one card might need headshots in order to do any harm. Meanwhile, higher difficulty levels will unlock things like friendly fire, deadlier acid spray from Xenomorphs, and more limited resources.
Check back on Thursday at 9 am PT for the world-exclusive gameplay reveal of Fireteam when we’ll get a 20-minute full-mission playthrough to start the month of coverage.
