Apple iOS 10.2.1 Released With Major Bug Fixes
Apple has released the iOS 10.2.1 software update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, the update appears to come with some bug fixes and performance improvements.
You can download the iOS 10.2.1 software update on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch by going to Settings > General > Software update on your device.
Check what is included in the 75mb update:
This update fixes certain issues that were encountered following the release of iOS 10.2, which included new wallpapers for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a new TV app, new Messages effects, new Camera settings, a new Videos app widget and 100 new emoji characters based on Unicode 9.0.
I suspect that the 10.2.1 update should contain a fix for the 30% bug — which causes devices to suddenly drop from 30% battery charge to 1%. However, this has not been confirmed as of yet. I will update this article once it becomes clear which bugs have been fixed by iOS 10.2.1.
Apple’s security page for iOS 10.2.1 says that the software update addresses under-the-hood kernel improvements and bugs that cause Auto Unlock to unlock when the Apple Watch is off the user’s wrist and issues with malicious contact cards that can crash the Contacts app. There is also a fix for an issue that causes an activation-locked device to be manipulated into briefly presenting the Home screen.
When iOS 10.3 arrives next month, it will be a much bigger release. For example — iOS 10.3 is believed to have a new feature called “Theater Mode,” which is expected to be some form of enhanced Dark Mode. Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly speculates that it would optimize the video viewing experience by dimming the screen and muting notifications. The “Theater Mode” feature is reportedly going to be controllable with one tap on a popcorn-shaped icon.
