Apple Releases New Firmware for AirPods, AirPods Max and AirPods Pro
On April 12, 2023, Apple released a new firmware update, version 5E133, for several of its popular AirPods models, including the AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Max, original AirPods Pro, and AirPods Pro 2. This firmware update comes as an upgrade from the 5B58 and 5B59 firmware updates that were released in November and January, respectively.
The new firmware brings various enhancements to these AirPods models, including improved stability and performance, as well as bug fixes that address issues reported by users. One of the most significant changes is the introduction of new features and capabilities, such as improved noise cancellation for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, and the addition of spatial audio support for the AirPods 3.
Spatial audio is a feature that was first introduced with the AirPods Pro, allowing users to experience immersive surround sound when watching movies or listening to music. This feature has now been extended to the AirPods 3, providing a more immersive audio experience for users of these newer earbuds.
With the release of the 5E133 firmware update, Apple continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering high-quality products and services that meet the needs and expectations of its customers. The company’s dedication to innovation and improvement is evident in the regular updates and enhancements made to its AirPods lineup, ensuring that users always have access to the latest features and capabilities.
As always, users can update their AirPods firmware by connecting them to their iPhone or iPad and navigating to the “Settings” menu. From there, they can select their AirPods and check for any available firmware updates. Once the update is downloaded and installed, users can enjoy the new features and improvements that come with the latest firmware version.
Apple does not offer immediately available release notes on what’s included in refreshed firmware updates for the AirPods, but the company does maintain a support document with release information.
There is no standard way to upgrade the AirPods software, but firmware is installed over-the-air while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Putting the AirPods in the case, connecting the AirPods to a power source, and then pairing the AirPods to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.
You can check your AirPods firmware by following these steps:
- Connect your AirPods to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Tap AirPods.
- Look at the number next to “Firmware Version.”
If we find notable changes after the firmware updates are installed, we’ll update this article, but the software likely includes performance improvements and bug fixes
