Back to the West: Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an example of a video game that reinvented the wheel. These are video games that come only a few times during a generation, but it was clear to see that when the game first came out in 2018, something about it just felt different. People were no stranger to games of sheer size. GTA V, mad by the same studio, was one example of a game that just clicked with players. In it, people can even go to an online casino though those looking to earn real money would be better off with a UK online casinos list that gives them many different options.

Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly had size, but it was not the measurements of its map that stunned audiences. It was the scope of the game itself – everything had been crafted to meticulous detail. It seems that any thought that was had regarding the design of the game was instantly added in without a moment’s hesitation. It is simply bursting with features – things to do, unlock and explore so much so that people are still discovering new things about the game, three years later. Red Dead Redemption 2 is already a classic, but what makes it so good?

Red Dead Redemption (Liar’s Dice)

Rockstar knew that the sequel to Red Dead Redemption had to be better than what came before, otherwise, what would be the point in making it? Unfortunately for them, the original was already a masterpiece, so they had their work cut out for them. However, eight years after the first, the sequel dropped and audiences were instantly stunned by how far Rockstar had pushed the current capabilities of the current generation of gaming. Some scenes looked so vivid that they were indistinguishable from real life. The animations that the developers were able to create for the characters were so lifelike that it looked odd to see them in a game.

Everything that the developers executed hit the ground running – the revised Dead Eye and duelling system, the new Cores system, the gunplay, everything felt as if it has been tested a million times and refined to perfection. It is hard to think of many video games that carry the same effect, but it is not surprising that it was Rockstar who managed it.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Much like the gameplay, the story that was presented in Red Dead Redemption 2 was exceptional. There is no doubt that it is one of the best tales in gaming history, if not the best video game story ever. The story follows Arthur, a man with a tortured past and even more tortured present as he struggles to reconcile his morality in a world that is slowly changing into something that he doesn’t recognise. The story deals with many themes, but it ultimately succeeds in creating an accurate portrayal of the downfall of the Wild West and the struggle of one’s own moral centre.

There is no doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best video games ever made, and while a trilogy instalment is not necessary, there is little doubt that few gamers would complain to return back to the West.
