Brabus Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet
Brabus is back, At Le Mans weekend it was unveiled. It is dubbed as ‘world’s fastest and most powerful four-seat cabriolet’. Meet the Brabus ‘850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio’, It is an 850PS (838bhp), 6.0-litre Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet with so much torque, it’s had to be pegged back to save the engine.
AMG’s venerable 5.5-litre V8 engine has been increased in size to 5.9-litres. Brabus has also fitted a forged crankshaft, forged pistons and forged connecting rods, while the two cylinder heads have been machined for ‘maximum power delivery’. Obvs.
There are a pair of new turbochargers with bigger compressors, along with a new carbon intake, carbon air ducts, and gold heat reflection for the charge-air pipes. Also, a new exhaust manifold and a 3in stainless steel sports exhaust with the all-important butterfly valves to allow the selection of low noise, or lots of noise. “When the valves are open,” Brabus assures us, “the eight-cylinder twin-turbo engine sounds as sporty as a super sports car.”
There is 838bhp. There is a massive, massive peak torque figure of 1,069lb ft, which, as mentioned, needed to be pegged back to 848 lb ft. There is four-wheel-drive and a seven-speed auto ‘box. 0-62mph takes just 3.5s, and the whole thing is limited to 217mph because of ‘tyre limitations’. Yikes.
Brabus also fitted a new front spoiler, some carbon surrounds, a rear carbon diffuser and spoiler, and offers up many wheel options.
