Brief History Of Black Friday – Infographic
The first time term “Black Friday” was used not for a binge holiday shopping spree but to the financial crisis: particularly, the crash of the U.S. gold market on September 24, 1869.
Two Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, joined forces to buy up as much as they could of the nation’s gold, hoping to drive the price sky-high and sell it for extraordinary profits. On that Friday in September, the conspiracy finally disclosed, sending the stock market into free-fall and bankrupting everyone from Wall Street tycoons to farmers.
Check out the brilliantly made infographic by Shopping.FM below, which will discuss the whole Black Friday event in great detail.
