The Astronauts, the developers of Witchfire, have recently released a new gameplay trailer showcasing the game’s spell-based combat. After previously showing off some impressive gunplay in earlier trailers, the team has returned with a focus on the magical side of things.

The video highlights the different types of elemental magic that will be available to players, with senior game designer Karol Krok providing insightful commentary throughout. The spells are categorized into two distinct groups: light spells and heavy spells.

Light spells are quicker to deploy and require less stamina to use, but deal less damage than their heavier counterparts. In contrast, heavy spells require more time to execute and have a higher stamina cost, but they pack a powerful punch. In the gameplay footage, we see the witch hunter unleashing a devastating heavy spell that summons a phantom bell capable of stunning nearby enemies.

Krok also reveals that the game features four core elements that make up the majority of spells and magic: water, earth, fire, and air. Each element has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, and players will need to master them all to become truly formidable witch hunters.

Interestingly, the developers have confirmed that Witchfire is on track to release into early access on PC via the Epic Games Store later this year. This news will no doubt excite fans who have been eagerly anticipating the game’s release.

Overall, it’s great to see that The Astronauts have put a lot of effort into developing a robust and diverse combat system for Witchfire. Whether players prefer gunplay or spellcraft, there will be plenty of options available to suit their playstyle.
