Developer Videos: All You Need To Know About The DOCTOR WHO VR Game
Developers Maze Theory announced that they are currently developing a Doctor Who VR game named The Edge of Time. In it players will begin on a new and fully-interactive adventure, which is inspired by the show’s 55-year history and starring the Doctor’s current incarnation, played by Jodie Whittaker. It is prepared to release for PSVR, HTC Vive, Vive Cosmos, and Oculus Rift in September 2019.
In the excitement to make and add to the canon within the Doctor Who series, the developers have published a developer diary. In it, you can know more how the game aims to build an authentic experience correct to the globally popular show.
Aside from the developer diary above, they have released a few other videos on the development of the game. Each one features a different creature that will be found in the game including both of the well-known antagonists Weeping Angels and Daleks. The other creature video covers a brand new enemy to join the Doctor Who universe through this VR title: Hydrorks – vicious amphibians, sometimes used as guards by races like the Stenza and Zygons.
With all these aspects revealed, it is worth adding that they have a few fun facts to add to all these trailers.
The weeping angels utilize a classic horror game mechanic, so the team has been excited to work with them.
Daleks in VR are incredibly imposing. Getting up close to them, seeing the textures of the metal, and reflectivity are awe-inspiring (in a terrifying kind of way!).
Jump scares work really well in VR! They are a brilliant technique. Be warned.
Being able to create new monsters for the show and add to the canon is hugely exciting. We’re making Doctor Who history!
When working in VR, because people can move around, get up close and experience the monsters from any angle, it’s really important to get the quality and precision just right. It feels very solid!
