Diablo 4 Showcases Impressive Polish with 60FPS Gameplay on Xbox Series X and Series S
Diablo 4 has arrived with a thunderous impact, shattering records and solidifying its position as Blizzard’s most successful game launch to date. The remarkable achievement of this highly anticipated title has even prompted Xbox’s Phil Spencer to extend his congratulations to the team behind it. As the game garners well-deserved attention, its technical prowess has come under scrutiny, and Digital Foundry, the tech experts, have conducted a comprehensive breakdown to shed light on its performance.
Digital Foundry’s analysis encompassed multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X and S, where Diablo 4 seems to excel. On both consoles, players can bask in the delight of a nearly flawless 60 frames per second (FPS) experience, showcasing the game’s optimized performance.
“Diablo 4 has set its sights on a 60 FPS target for the ninth-gen consoles and manages to maintain this benchmark for the majority of the time. Although Series S and X may occasionally experience a frame drop or two during open-world traversal, they overwhelmingly uphold the 60 FPS standard.”
Interestingly, the Xbox version of the game appears to have a slight advantage over its counterpart on the PS5, albeit with marginal differences that may not significantly impact overall gameplay.
“While playing on the PS5, occasional dropped frames are more prevalent, particularly in the expansive Kyovashad city area. Nevertheless, it is important to note that this issue does not substantially hinder the gaming experience.”
Unfortunately, the analysis does not provide insight into the performance of the Xbox One version, focusing instead on a glimpse of the PS4 edition. On the last-gen console, Diablo 4 operates at 30 FPS, but experiences notable drops during certain stages. Footage for both Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5, and PS4 can be found above.
Overall, Diablo 4 appears to run remarkably well on modern consoles, bringing a sense of relief to the gaming community that has witnessed several high-profile releases encountering significant launch issues in recent times. Games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and Redfall have all struggled with technical compromises on day one, making Diablo 4’s smooth and polished launch all the more impressive.
“The current-generation versions of the game are in outstanding condition, showcasing a level of polish that is rare in today’s gaming landscape. Diablo 4 stands as an impressive achievement, offering a refreshing departure from the plethora of technically flawed releases that have plagued the industry in recent months.”
