Far Cry 6 Released: Say Hello to Yara

Some games just promise casual fun and run smoothly on any device. Free European roulette is a good example: You can play this game on any device, regardless of model or operating system, as long as it has a web browser. But some games offer much more and test the limits of your computer: The Far Cry series has always been one of those games. Far Cry, one of the favorite series of the players, has recently released its sixth game. So, what awaits us in the sixth edition of this series?

What Is Far Cry 6 About?

The Far Cry series has always been known for engaging villains, and that rule doesn’t change in the sixth game. This time the villain is Anton Castillo, nicknamed “El Presidente.” Castillo is played by Giancarlo Esposito, whom we know from the Breaking Bad series (we’re sure you’ll remember him as Gustavo Fring). Castillo plays the dictator of a tropical island called “Yara”. This island also hosts a type of tobacco called “Viviro”, which can stop the progression of all kinds of cancer.

We start the game by joining the Libertad resistance against Castillo and controlling a character named Dani. Unlike other Far Cry heroes, Dani lives in Yara and although his dream is to immigrate to the United States, he stays in Yara and starts fighting due to some events. This island is divided into three regions, each controlled by Castillo’s generals. Likewise, there are local guerrilla forces in each region that we can persuade to join Libertad. By performing various missions, capturing bases, and attacking Castillo’s soldiers, we first persuade local guerrilla forces to join Libertad, and finally, we liberate Yara by challenging Castillo.

Far Cry 6 Mechanics

Far Cry 6 does not contain any new mechanics other than the “Amigos” system and the method of obtaining gear. It is played exactly the same as previous Far Cry games. Even the Amigos system is a slightly improved version of the companion system in Far Cry 5, but this time the companions are just animals. However, the method of obtaining gear has been completely changed: In previous games, we could collect the weapons of the enemies or buy new weapons directly from the shops. This time, the bulk of the weapons are collected from chests scattered across different parts of the world map.

Equipment shops still exist, but they are not very effective: If you want unique and powerful weapons, you have to go chest hunting. The materials required to upgrade your weapons are also collected from the world. Rare materials can still be found in chests, while ordinary materials can be found anywhere. As you level up, the enemies get stronger, and for the same reason, you need to strengthen your weapons. You do this by adding different mods to them. These mods change lots of things such as the damage, magazine capacity, or velocity values of weapons according to their types.

You will notice that weapons and equipment are indicated by a system of stars, but these stars do not directly represent their strength. The number of stars indicates the number of mods that can be attached to that weapon. So, for example, you can install only one mod on a 1-star weapon, while you can install four mods on a 4-star weapon. This is a mechanic not found in previous games: In other games, you could buy mods to power up weapons with money. In Far Cry 6, you have to collect the materials required for purchasing them from the world map.

Finally, we can see the camping system added to the game as a novelty. When you enter one of these camps, the game switches to a third-person camera angle. Camps are areas designed for you to take on new missions, start co-op missions, and access different features of the game. You can also build two buildings for each and use them to access different equipment and bonuses.

If you like the Far Cry series, you will like Far Cry 6 too: The game does not contain changes that are significant enough to change your views on the series. This time, however, the map is much larger, you have more to collect, and the story may be more political than you’re used to. But especially considering that very few FPS was released in 2021, Far Cry 6 deserves to be played.
