Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is a wonderful game, the graphics are brilliant and the mechanics are well-tuned. The game world is alive and interactive and it has one of the soundtracks we heard in a video game.

But, there is one thing which not every is a master of and that is poker, It not like online slots or poker, But first, let me introduce the game that is Red Dead Redemption 2 it is an Open World game based around the year 1900 in North America. It follows the exploits of Arthur Morgan. A member of a small gang that attempts to make ends meet in the New World, no matter legal or illegal.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is so huge we can’t even cover it in one article, it can be covered in a book but not in an article. There are so many missions, tasks, and things to do that the game will keep you busy for months, easily. So here we are only talking about the poker and gambling aspect. Poker was popular then as it is now and in this pandemic a little more.

In RDR 2 you’ll get the early main story missions called “Who Is Not Without Sin,” and it will happen in Chapter 2. You’ll go into Flatneck Station to find Reverend Swanson. He is super drunk and losing money away at the poker table so you have to do the right thing – take him off the table – and take his place.

And so it begins, playing poker in the old west. It’s only a 1c/2c game but that is a lot of money in those days.

Your first hand will be Q-To and you’ll lose out on the Q-J of one of your challengers by hitting a second pair. it is rigged but in your favor,  After the second hand, however, the cards are random as they are in the online poker games. So it is hard to beat the game Unless you know what you are doing.

Once the mission is over you’ll be able to come back and play when you want to play and how long you like. There is no 24/7 poker service in the year 1900 so come when the station is open. This is the same thing with other poker locations, which you will unlock.

RDR 2 Poker Challenges

There are many different challenges in Red Dead Redemption 2. You’ll have to establish yourself as a bandit, sharpshooter, herbalist, horseman, survivalist, weapons expert – and yes even a good gambler.

There are a total of 10 gambling challenges in Red Dead Redemption 2, three of them will involve poker. The others will have Blackjack, Five Finger Fillet, and Dominoes.

Gambling Challenge #1: Win 5 Hands of Poker

You might unexpectedly complete this mission on your first attempt at the Flatneck Station poker table. If you don’t, don’t sweat. The number of hands you already won is saved in the game so you don’t have to win five games all in one go. You can finish the mission at any other location and any other time.

Gambling Challenge #4: Bust a Player in 3 Different Locations

This is really the most complex of the 3 poker challenges. You’ll have to take one opponent’s entire stack at St. Denis, Flatneck Station, and in Valentine.

Here is a pro tip raise big – at least 10x – to create a pot early in the game so your opponents have to bind themselves to the pot. Of course, you can at times trap as well. Even then, your competitors won’t always play and they’ll fold at times when math would tell them to call it quits. You can still crush them down, though, and it will be then easier to finish.

This will take a lot of your time because you have to do this in 3 different locations. Finally, you’ll win and it will end, but we also had cases when we got stacked two times by the very exact player.

The buy-in for a max of $5, your competitor might have 3x your stack so crushing them down is not really that simple. In cases like this, it can be smarter to leave the table and go sightseeing. Come back after some time when there are players with small stacks.

RDR2 Poker Rules

If you do not know about the rules of Texas Hold’em, RDR2 gives a comprehensive set of poker laws and the game will also teach you how to play. You’ll be playing with game money but it’s actually more nail-biting than if you were playing with the real cash.

RDR2 opponents play very “realistic” poker and they try to beat you in every way possible, The AI is superb. When you finish a challenge you’ll enhance your Dead Eye skills and the amount of ammo you can carry, which is very handy in the missions, you won’t feel the need to go to the general store for ammo again and again.
