Intel Core i5 Vs i7 – Which CPU Should I Buy
Whether you are buying a new or a refurbished computer, choosing the perfect one can be a difficult challenge. The difference between Intel’s processors is not so clear-cut when comparing the Core i7 and Core i5. Intel’s Core i9 processors are built for computers that handle heavy tasks like graphic designing and other high-performance tasks.

How many Cores do you need?
A computer with a Core i5 processor will be less expensive than one with a Core i7 processor if all other specifications are the same. But in many cases, if you place one chip against the other, the Core i5 will have a lower performance. The Core i7, on the other hand, will typically produce a better performance when put to the test whether for graphics creation or video editing, multitasking, gaming, and others. So, the question that you need to ask is what tasks will you be doing with your computer? Because in many cases, the price difference between a Core i5 and a Core i7 will be small.
The cache on a processor is the on-chip memory which helps the processor carry out repetitive tasks or access frequently used data by your computer. Core i7 processors have a larger amount of cache than the Core i5 chip. For instance, if you are doing some graphics editing work, your CPU should not have to reload certain visual elements. This is what the cache does – it prevents your CPU from reloading certain elements, which is why they tend to be faster. The large cache is a feature that benefits multitasking, as well, because background tasks will be on standby when you switch to another window.
Cache size is not the feature that you can base your choice on, except if you are particular about specifics based on what you need it for. Core i7 processors have 12MB cache, while the Core i5 CPUs have a 9MB cache.
Intel has built processors with Turbo Boost for many generations. The overclocking feature allows some of the processor’s cores to run faster than the base clock speed, especially when only one or two cores are running (like when you are performing a sing-thread task). Both Core i7 and Core i5 processors use the Turbo Boost feature, with Core i7 processors achieving greater clock speeds.
When shopping for computers, you will discover that each chip has a rated base speed. While higher speeds are generally better, you still need to consider the cooling and specific design of the PC, how long the boost speeds can be sustained, how many cores, and how high.
