iOS 17 Supported Devices

The iPhone 15, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will almost certainly support iOS 17. This is because Apple typically supports the latest and greatest iPhone models with its newest software updates.

Additionally, it’s safe to assume that the iPhone 12 series will also be able to run iOS 17, given that these phones were released relatively recently and are still considered high-end devices.

But what about older iPhones? While we don’t know for sure which devices will be compatible with iOS 17, there are some clues we can use to make educated guesses.

First, it’s worth noting that Apple tends to support iPhones for several years after their release date. The iPhone 6s, for example, was released in 2015 and received its last major software update (iOS 15) in 2021 – six years later.

With that in mind, it’s possible that the iPhone XS and XR, which were released in 2018, could still be supported by iOS 17. However, it’s also possible that Apple will choose to drop support for these devices in favor of newer models.

As for the iPhone X and earlier models, it’s unlikely that these devices will be able to run iOS 17. Apple typically drops support for devices that are more than a few years old, and the iPhone X was released back in 2017.

Of course, all of this is speculation at this point. We won’t know for sure which iPhones will be able to run iOS 17 until Apple announces the new software at WWDC 2023. But based on past trends and Apple’s support policies, we can make some educated guesses about which devices are most likely to be compatible with the new operating system.

iPhones sure to get iOS 17

The following iPhones are a no-brainer for iOS 17. Obviously, the models released in the last few years are sure to retain support, as will as the rumored iPhone 15 models.

It’s difficult to say for certain which iPhones won’t make the cut for iOS 17 until Apple announces its official list of supported devices. However, based on past trends and the age of certain iPhone models, there are a few devices that are likely to be left out.

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X are all in danger of not being supported by iOS 17 due to their older chipsets, which may not be able to handle the new features in the latest software. Additionally, these devices are already unable to use some of the features introduced in iOS 16, such as Live Text.

It’s worth noting that Apple tends to support iPhones for several years after their release date, so the iPhone XS and XR may still be compatible with iOS 17. However, it’s also possible that Apple will choose to drop support for these devices in favor of newer models.

Ultimately, we won’t know for sure which iPhones won’t make the cut for iOS 17 until Apple announces its official list of supported devices at WWDC 2023. But based on the age of certain models and the capabilities of their chipsets, it’s possible that some older iPhones may not be compatible with the latest software update.
