Lost Planet 3′ & ‘Rayman Legends’ Launch Trailers
After months of videos, announcements, and other marketing materials, the launch trailer is the publisher’s final pre-release effort to help excite gamers about a new game’s arrival, and this week, players can celebrate the long-awaited arrival of Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends and Capcom’s Lost Planet 3 after delays held back each sequel.
Rayman Legends has had an interesting development cycle. The critically acclaimed Rayman Origins proved that Rayman was still a force in the gaming industry. It stands out as one of the best platforms of its generation, thanks to its challenging fast-paced action and incredible art style. The critically-acclaimed hit helped Ubisoft to quickly greenlight Rayman Legends, originally announced as the next title in the series and exclusively for Wii U.
Lost Planet 3 released August 27, 2013 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Rayman Legends released August 29, 2013 for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
Also releasing this week, Lost Planet 3 takes place long before the events of the original game. Spark’s new third-person shooter will bombard the player with a massive war, and provide a deeper look into the history of its universe. The launch trailer exudes an initially sarcastic tone, as protagonist Jim Peyton describes his mech-suit as his “little slice of paradise.” Calm Hawaiian music plays as a contrast to the harsh, frozen environment of E.D.N. III.
The action picks up as Peyton is warned of an attack on E.D.N. III, and classic Lost Planet action bursts onto the screen. All of the series standards are here: Guns, Mechs, Giant Monsters, and a frozen landscape. Peyton is taken from his relaxing banality, and immediately thrown into the chaos of war. This trailer earns its “Paradise Lost” title as Peyton is forced into action. While Lost Planet 3 has not been performing too well in the review department (read our LP3 preview from last summer), this video should excite fans of the series but may not bring in new ones which is Capcom’s ultimate goal.
