Microsoft And Sony

Yes you read that title of the post correctly and it is official now, Sony and Microsoft are joining forces in the region of cloud computing and entertainment! The plan is to share knowledge and infrastructure to build Microsoft’s Azure into a streaming and processing powerhouse. The deal also affirms that Sony will begin to use Azure in its own cloud-based services as well as advance tools to help its creators and developers.

Bringing the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers.

“PlayStation itself came about through the integration of creativity and technology. Our mission is to seamlessly evolve this platform as one that continues to deliver the best and most immersive entertainment experiences, together with a cloud environment that ensures the best possible experience, anytime, anywhere. For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”

— Kenichiro Yoshida Sony president

“Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation. Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers.”

— Satya Nadella Microsoft CEO

Needless to say, this new partnership came out of the left field but really goes to show how powerful and important Azure is. One also has to think if the announcement of this partnership has anything to do with Google’s Stadia service. The partnership is in its start and currently, we won’t see anything on it for a while but the opportunities are exciting and endless!
