Naughty Dog 30th Anniversary Documentary Video

Naughty Dog, Inc, the American video game developer based in Santa Monica, California was founded by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin in 1984 as an independent developer, that was later acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2001.

The studio turned 30 this year and shares its history with us in this 50-minute 30th anniversary documentary:

Gavin and Rubin developed few successful games, including Rings of Power for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Way of the Warrior for the 3DO.

Mark Cerny convinced ND to create a character-based platform game and that led to Crash Bandicoot for PlayStation on August 31, 1996, it received three sequels over the next several years.

In January 2001, Sony acquired Naughty Dog. After developing Crash Team Racing, they began working on Jak and Daxter (2001) for the PlayStation 2 and three sequels over the next several years.

The studio’s first PlayStation 3 title, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released in 2007, its sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in 2009, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in November 2011.

Naughty Dog was known for developing only one game at a time & one franchise per console, a trend that lasted until ND announced The Last of Us in 2011 & released in 2013 for PS3.

Their current project is the next installment from Uncharted series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which was revealed at E3 2014 in June 2014, set for 2015 release on PS4.
