Next Call of Duty Will Be Developed By Sledgehammer Games

Activision is giving their first-person shooter video game franchise, Call of Duty series a longer development cycle by adding up Sledgehammer Games to the rotation.

We liked the Call of Duty games from Infinity Ward, Is it a wise choice to give it to another developer when Infinity Ward was doing a marvelous job?

Previously, Infinity Ward and Treyarch released Call of Duty games alternatively with two years development cycle, but now by adding Sledgehammer Games – the development cycle has been expanded to a three-year development cycles, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed during the publisher’s Q4 calender 13 results call.

Sledgehammer worked with Infinity Ward on 2011′s third installment in the Modern Warfare saga, the eighth Call of Duty installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The studio was found by Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield (previously worked with Visceral on the Dead Space series). The team will lead the development of this year’s Call of Duty game.

Eric Hirshberg explains, “There are several advantages to doing this. The first is of course quality; this will give our designers more time to envision and to innovate for each title.

Simultaneously it will give our content creators more focus on DLC and micro DLC which, as you know, have become large and high-margin opportunities, and significant engagement drivers.

Finally, it’ll give our teams more time to polish, making sure that we relive the best possible experience to our fans each and every time.”

In an open letter on Sledgehammer’s website co-founders Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey wrote: “Having the honor of developing the new, next generation of Call of Duty is a developer’s dream come true.

All of us here at Sledgehammer Games have a shared vision to create the best work of our lives. The next Call of Duty represents a new era for this amazing franchise, and we look forward to sharing what we have been working on.”
