Paradox Interactive Is Giving Mod Support To Their Xbox One Games
On the PC, modding is always there to give new elements into the games. On consoles, the act of modding is not unavailable or requires the use of costly hardware or emulation on PC. There are certain important examples of modding on consoles with Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 maintaining user made mods. Both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 also support mods on Xbox One and PS4 although very limited.
Now modding on consoles has got a huge win with a new connection between Paradox Interactive and Microsoft. The partnership will allow mods to be created for PC and Xbox One using a new Paradox mod toolbox. With a single upload the mods will be available on both Xbox One and PC for download on the main menu of Paradox Interactive games.
The feature is only available right now for Surviving Mars but should be rolling out to other Paradox games within some time. If the whole method turns out to be a famous and successful maybe we will start to see modding on consoles become more of a normal thing. The new patch to add mod support has also produced mouse and keyboard support to the Xbox One variant of Surviving Mars.
