Sony launched the PlayStation Home virtual world way back in 2008 for the PlayStation 3. They wanted to give gamers a virtual hangout where they could socialize with each other and play games. Be friends and laugh together. They envisioned a busy metropolis no doubt, but it just never rose to those heights. Along the way it has been redesigned and undergone major changes, but sadly it never really perform the way Sony wanted. And so last year Sony announced that it would be shutting down PlayStation Home. It is now done.
PlayStation Home was officially shut down on March 31st of 2015. It had a six year life span, but it just wasn’t worth keeping around. The company decided last year that it would not be publishing new content for PlayStation Home after November 12th “due to a shifting landscape.”
