PlayStation Is Getting Serious About Its Retro Library

By  |

As PlayStation schedules to make hundreds of classic games playable on PS5 via its improved PlayStation Plus, it’s seemingly taking steps to conserve its retro library. The Sony-owned video game colossus formed a new preservation team, as indicated by a new hire’s LinkedIn and Twitter posts.

“Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer for PlayStation, working as one of their initial hires for the newly created Preservation team!” Garrett Fredley wrote Monday. “Game Preservation was my first career passion. It was my first foray into the world of Software Engineering / Dev Ops, and into a world that so many are unaware of.”

Fredley’s earlier experience includes a stint at EA, where he led the preservation of the FIFA franchise. For those interested to know more about his work, he also pointed to a presentation he gave at Game Developers Conference 2019.

PlayStation didn’t respond to a request for comment about the game preservation team.
