STAR WARS Open World Game Is being Developed by Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft
Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment has joined forces with Lucasfilm Games to create an open-world Star Wars game! This is really good news, I always wanted an open-world Star Wars game and now this is really happening.
Wired reports that Julian Gerighty (The Division 2, The Crew) is on board as creative director and it will use Massive Entertainment’s Snowdrop engine. There is no other information on the game, its story, or any characters the game will have.
This announcement is revealed after yesterday’s news that Lucasfilm Games is joining with Bethesda to make an Indiana Jones game, which is the first non-Star Wars AAA game Lucasfilm will be making in years.
EA is also involved in the development of most AAA Star Wars games for example Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons, but they are certainly looking to give other developers the chance to play with the Star Wars sandbox.
Sean Shoptaw, SVP of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney said:
“EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward. But we did feel like there’s room for others.”
Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, added:
“The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”
