The Best Way to Jailbreak an Amazon Firestick

By  |

Amazon Firestick

Sometimes, almost every Firestick user wants to use some apps on the TV but can not do it because of the availability on the Amazon app store. That is why users have to jailbreak it.

Jailbreak might sound hacky or illegal, but the process is not. It is legal to jailbreak a Firestick to unlock several new functions and features. If you want to Jailbreak your Firestick, you might want to follow this simple and step-by-step guide.

What is Jailbreaking, and why do you need it?

As I mentioned earlier, it is a process of unlocking the hidden features and functionalities of the Firestick. When you buy the Amazon Firestick, it comes with some restrictions of its own. Jailbreaking removes all those restrictions.

Most people jailbreak their Firestick to install or sideload third-party applications on their devices. And what does that do? Several streaming apps(unavailable in the Amazon store) provide free streaming of live sports, movies, shows, etc. You can use them to save a decent amount of money.

How to Jailbreak your Amazon Firestick?

Jailbreaking is a simple process. Even if you do not like the technical process or terms, you will jailbreak a Firestick in no time. Jailbreaking a Firestick has three main steps,

1) You have to allow the installation of third-party apps or allow sideloading.

2) You have to install an app from the Amazon store which allows the installation of those third-party apps.

3) You have to change the privacy settings.

I’ll break down these three steps in an easier way.

1) Allowing third-party apps

It is similar to the setting you get on your smartphone. You can download and install a third-party application to your smartphone or Amazon Firestick by giving permission. To allow sideloading apps in Firestick.

  • Go to the home page and select settings(gear-like icon),
  • You will find the My Fire TV option that you have to click,
  • After it, click on the Developer Options, which is often second or third in the list,
  • After opening the Developer options, click on the Apps from Unknown Resources,
  • Choose the Turn On option to enable the setting.
  • You can also turn on the ADB debugging option which allows you to sideload apps from your Android device.

Congratulations, you aced that first step! You can skip to the third part if you already have an app to download or install a third-party app. Also, if you want free streams of TV shows, movies, live sports, etc., you can use apps like Kodi or Cinema HD. Check this complete list of apps that provide popular movies and shows for free on Amazon Fire Stick. Let us move to the second step now.

2) Installing an app to download third-party apps

In the previous step, you made your Firestick eligible to install third-party applications. Now, you have to download an app with which you can install those third-party applications. I recommend the Downloader app, but you can use any app you like.

The Downloader app is available at the Amazon store for free. You can install APK files with the help of this app. You can install this app in a similar way to how you install other apps. After installing.

  • Select the Allow prompt that you will get after opening the app for the first time.
  • On the main screen, you will find an option to Enter a URL or Search Term.
  • You can enter the URL address of the APK file or website you want to use.

Congratulations again! You have made it to step 3. You have successfully jailbroken your Firestick using these steps. But if you want to add an extra layer of security, you might want to follow this last step.

3) Editing Preferences

Firestick often shares data usage, but if you have jailbroken it, you might want to stop it from sharing data usage. To do so.

  • Go to the settings, and click on the Preferences tab.
  • Now, click on the Privacy Settings option.
  • You will find two options here.
  1. Device Data Usage,
  2. Collect App Usage Data.
  •  Turn off both these options.
  • Go back to the Preferences tab’s menu.
  • Click on the Data Monitoring tab and turn it off.

That was it. You have successfully jailbroken your Firestick and also stopped sharing your data usage.

Jailbreaking is a great way to explore and use all functions of an Amazon Firestick. My only advice is not to stream illegal content because that might get you in legal trouble.
