The Luckiest Numbers in Lotto History
As we know, the lottery is totally random. Why is it, then, that some numbers seem to come up more than others? Are these numbers inherently luckier for some reason? Countries all over the world have lotteries and the US has state lotteries, as well as the Mega Millions and Powerball lottos, which cover several states. That’s a lot of people choosing numbers and playing the lotto. What are the luckiest numbers in lotto history?
A study carried out in 2017 looked at fifteen international lotteries and almost 1500 separate lottery draws between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. They studied the EuroJackpot, EuroMillions, Irish Lotto, UK Lotto, French Lotto, Super Enalotto, German Lotto, OZ Powerball, Australian Lotto, Australian Wednesday Lotto, Australian Saturday Lotto, US MegaMillions, Australian Monday Lotto, Mega Sena, and the US Powerball. All of this data meant that the researchers could get as much data as possible to conclude which are the luckiest lotto numbers.
It was found that during this time frame, in these fifteen different lotteries, the number 16 was drawn 191 times, making it the luckiest lotto number in recent history. ‘Sweet 16’, indeed.
This is the only repdigit number out of the six most frequently drawn numbers and was found to have been drawn 179 times, making it the second of the luckiest lotto numbers. A repdigit is a number that has all the same digits, like 666, the number of the beast (Satan). The number 666 is known as the number of the beast because it was mentioned as such in the Book of Revelation.
28 and 37
In joint third place are 28 and 37, both drawn 167 times in the period. The number 28 in the alphanumeric Hebrew Gematria represents energy, so perhaps you’ll be able to harness some of that when picking this number. 37 is one of two prime numbers on this list of six numbers which means it can only be divided by itself and 1.
In fifth place is 6. In classical Greek, hexa is the prefix for six, hence the word for a six-sided polygon, hexagon. In Latin, the prefix sex also means six, hence the word sextant because it’s a tool that measures a sixth of the circumference of a circle.
The sixth luckiest number is 3, with 164 draws over that period from the fifteen different lotteries. As well as being the least lucky out of the six, 3 is also the lowest number on the list.
The unluckiest numbers
As well as finding the most drawn lottery numbers, the study also found the last drawn numbers. Those six numbers were 18, 46, 40, 32 and 36. Depending on how you approach the lottery, you might want to avoid those numbers or perhaps you want to pick them because few other people will pick them, so you’ll get a larger amount if you win.
