The Tech Trends from CES 2018 that Will Matter

By  |

Tech geeks are always the ones to follow the trends. If you’re slow to catch up on any trend, it will keep evolving and you’ll keep lagging behind. No one wants that to happen. That’s why we’re trying to get all the news and figure out how to be the leaders in our industry. That’s why we continue to spend money on things people say we don’t need. We do need them!

The yearly Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a mandatory event for everyone who wants to follow the progress of technical achievements. Needless to say, not all of us were able to attend. Still, we can get our hands on the details. If you want to have all the important information in a single spot, you’re reading the right article. We’ll list the most important tech trends from CES 2018.

  1. Robotic Companions

Are you considering a robotic companion as a new addition to your family? Well, you shouldn’t imagine it like the robotic companions from The Jetsons. No; the new robots won’t write your assignments. You’ll still have to get a “human” assignment help for that. We’re far from such an achievement. The real robotic companions, however, are developing at a fast pace.

Sony’s Aibo was a huge hit at CES 2018. It’s a dog. It’s a robot. It can find a bone, and it will dance to make you happy. You can pet it, and it will respond. It even recognizes the people in your family. Its eyes show expressions. It’s just like a real dog, except it won’t bite.

  1. Virtual Reality Is Getting Better

The HTC Vive Pro is one of the most important devices to have your eye on in 2018. It really shows the progress we’re making in the niche of virtual reality. It’s the most advanced VR headset, equipped with an HR display and optional wireless adapter. It leaves you free to walk around and explore the virtual space around you.

Lenovo and Google are not lagging behind. The Lenovo Mirage Solo, supported by Google’s Daydream VR platform, is not to be underestimated as a competitor.

  1. Augmented Reality is Gaining Momentum, Too

Did you ever think that augmented reality would become a more important trend than virtual reality? That’s exactly what CES 2018 made us believe. Virtual reality is still growing as a trend, but augmented reality is expected to explode. Why?

Well, VR is mostly great about games. AR, on the other hand, is changing the way brands are approaching marketing, and it’s definitely changing the way we use the Internet. It even changes the way we’re getting health care.

Augmented reality was a huge trend at CES 2018, with exhibitors such as Carl Zeiss, Kodak, and Sony.

  1. 5G Technology

3G and 4G are getting outdated. 5G is the big deal right now! It’s the 5th generation wireless broadband technology that changes the way we see wireless networks. With so much data we’re getting from IoT devices, we need better technology to handle it. That’s the 5G network, which will be handling billions of these smart devices with no problems.

At CES 2018, the attendants were pretty enthusiastic to hear about the way that 5G is going to transform different industries, from gaming to manufacturing.

  1. Multipurpose Coffee Table

Who doesn’t want a classy coffee table? Now imagine that the classiest coffee table of all was made by Sony. What’s the first thought that comes to mind? It’s gotta be a TV, too! That’s exactly what it is! It’s actually the 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector.

Apart from its nice design, what makes it different from old-school projectors? Well, you’re getting HDR quality and a powerful 3D sound. If you’re ready to spend $30,000 on this pleasure, it will make you much happier than a usual TV set.

  1. IoT Devices

Everyone is having an advanced perception of dream home nowadays. A smart one, that is! Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices are a huge hit, but the competition with smart devices is growing by the day. Google is into this game now, too. That means we can expect more big things to come in 2018. Google Home is a speaker that interacts with Google Assistant. Through it, you can control smart home appliances. Apple’s HomeKit accessories are also here to spice things up.

  1. Wearable Health-Boosting Tech

Health tech is a huge hit at CES. Finally, these devices reach an audience that goes beyond runners and fitness junkies. The digital health products that were presented this year include:

  • Rhythm24 by Scosche; a wearable device that measures, records, and transmits heart rate data;
  • MobileHelp Smart, which links the user to emergency services;
  • An air quality monitor by Airthing,
  • And many, many more
  1. Convertibles

Why would you have a tablet and a laptop when you can have both devices in a single one? The Lenovo Yoga has already been available on the market, but now convertibles are getting further regarding capability and functionality.

The Lenovo X1 Yoga was a quote popular at CES 2018. The design is just as cool as it used to be, but the device got a huge upgrade on the inside. The 15-hour battery life is impressive, to say the least.

  1. Wireless Charging

How long have we been waiting for this? Belkin’s Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad for iPhone was recognized with the CES Innovation Awards. Wireless chargers are also available from other accessory brands, such as iOttie.

The wireless charger does just what it’s supposed to do: it charges your phone. We already had chargers on our phones, so why does this matter? Think about charging your phone in the car, while camping, or while having a walk in the park. It’s 2018, people! We need wireless things!

  1. Thinner Laptops. Yup, Even Thinner!

If you thought that laptops couldn’t get any thinner, you’re in for a surprise. The 2nd generation Acer Swift 7 reclaimed the trophy. It’s 8.98 millimeters thin and it almost looks like a toy. If you like having a wider choice when buying toys, you can also check out Dell’s new XPS 13 laptop.

So the trend of thin laptops is still going strong.

When you once get inside the tech world, there’s no turning back. You have to check out the new trends. You need to be the first one who tries them. CES 2018 introduced us to many new trends, so we better start exploring!
