Whether you are a fan of casual crazy ball games or prefer a game with immense detail and up-front learning, the internet seems to have something out there for you. As our hardware has advanced, our games have gotten more and more complex. This enables sports games to be so detail-oriented that the practice that one puts into this game can often directly relate to the field.

It is a fantastic thing you are interested in sports and playing sports simulators – but not so ideal if you are looking for some casual gameplay. Thankfully the internet has responded and created the games that lovers of casual sports games would appreciate. Here are the top 8 quirky sports games for you to enjoy!

Rocket League

Rocket League

Imagine FIFA met Need for Speed. Yes, you are picturing it correctly. Unless you are envisioning a sprinting game, then maybe not exactly. In short – when you think rocket league, think car soccer. While the game was released in 2015, it is by no means outdated; with constant patches and tweaks, these rocket-powered cars are becoming increasingly entertaining to play and watch.

Golf

What the Golf?

To describe this game in detail would be a severe injustice, similar to the spoilers in movies. But this is not like the PGA golf tour, and golf lovers might actually hate this game. Simply watching the game trailer often leaves people wondering – what golf is.

Mario Tennis Aces

Mario Tennis Aces

Any sports game is better with Mario. Think cart racing, soccer, and now tennis. This game was released in 2018 and first developed for the Nintendo Switch. By the end of 2019, the game had sold over 3 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games on the switch. Who would have thought adding Mario and time pausing capabilities, called a “zone shot,” is all it took to make people fall in love with tennis?

Mutant Football League

Mutant Football League

Mutant Football League was created for all lovers of football guts and gore. Being released onto PC in 2017 and onto PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo in 2018, this game takes inspiration from the original game released in 1993, “Football Mutant League,” and other iconic games such as the NFL Blitz. Now becoming the more violent and over dramatizations of what football is. Lovers of the sport might smirk at the subtle head nods and references to actual players, but knowing anything about football before playing the game is not a pre-requisite.

Golf Story

Golf Story

Golf Story is often compared to Mario golf and is much more appropriate for golf lovers when compared to What the Golf – assuming one enjoys RPG turn-based games. Golf Story is an adventure game with a top-down perspective centered on the sport of golf. The plot revolves around a down-on-his-luck golfer striving to recapture his boyhood love of the game, which was passed down to him by his father after not playing for 20 years. The player character tries to win back his estranged wife by playing on the professional circuit.

Windjammers

Windjammers

Frisby meets Ice Hockey. An epic 2D game that isn’t based on a game that truly exists. Imagine table tennis became 2D, and you throw flaming disks at each other instead of balls. What you are imagining is Windjammers. Initially released in 1994, and in those days was the 19th most popular arcade game, has now been re-released to be PlayStation compatible, but with the same quirky ad they would have used to market the project in the 90s, which is likely why most people commit to the game purchase.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games: Tokyo 2020

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games: Tokyo 2020

Here’s Mario again. Mario and sports = sales. Nintendo, take note. Thanks to unfortunate global circumstances in 2020, the Tokyo Olympics could not occur. Thankfully our heroes from Nintendo Sonic and Mario could fill the Olympic-sized gap in our hearts.

This game, like previous Mario & Sonic releases, is a sports game featuring a crossover cast of characters from Nintendo’s Super Mario and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog series. As one of the characters, the player participates in a variety of events based on Olympic Games sports. Boxing, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics are among the returning activities from past Mario & Sonic games, while karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing are new.

Pirates vs. Ninja's Dodgeball

Pirates vs. Ninja’s Dodgeball

The game is based on the viral Internet meme Pirates vs. Ninjas. It is played by a variety of weird groupings, including the eponymous Pirate and Ninja teams and other teams such as zombies and robots. Players on each squad exhibit stereotyped behavior; for example, zombies are sluggish and protective.

Whether you want to enjoy your favorite game in a new way, or you want to explore games that are not possible in the organic world. There are games on the internet for you! These games are perfect for when you want to play sports games with someone who doesn’t play sport.
