Space Invaders Board Game

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are developing a Space Invaders sci-fi action movie project and the new movie is classic 1978 arcade game from Taito.

The studio has hired Greg Russo to write the script of the upcoming movie. He recently wrote James Wan’s Mortal Kombat film as well, the movie is also based at WB as well, so the studio clearly liked what he did with the project. Akiva Goldsman (Transformers) will also produce the movie.

Deadline explains that it “will take work fleshing this into a full-fledged alien invasion movie, but the title is certainly a brand. In the classic game, a group of blocky aliens came down from the top of the screen to the bottom, and players primarily blasted them until their thumbs got swollen, or the invaders won in overwhelming the slow-triggered defender of the earth.”

I loved playing Space Invaders in my childhood and some really fond memories of the game, now it will be exciting to see how they end up making a story around the game, but I hope that they end up coming up with something new and unique alien invasion concept that we haven’t seen in a movie before.
